The Associated Students Inc. (ASI) fell short by several thousand dollars on their expectations for the Welcome Back Concert held October 3rd, 2009.

"We did not meet our expected revenue for the concert," ASI Assistant Director Cesar Rumayor said.

The concert, held at the outdoor amphitheater at California State University, Stanislaus, featured country artist Chris Cagle and Josh Gracin based on polling of students who requested that country artists perform at this year's event.

"I wish more people would have come to the event," CSU Stan student and program coordinator for the Student Union Becky Leguria said of the concert, and added that she thought the artist's performance was very good.

ASI had an initial budget of $56,000 for the event, with costs being divided between logistics and artist fees. ASI routinely gives away hundreds of free tickets, which cost up to $30 for this particular concert, to students in hopes of providing them a campus life and activities that they would find memorable in their college experience.

Although ASI didn't expect to recoup the entire $56,000 to hold the concert, they did hope to recover $24,000 from ticket sales to regional fans who would want to attend the concert. However, only $12,000 was regained from the concert.

"(We) didn't make as much, but if students enjoyed it, (then) we did our job," ASI coordinator Mehran Khudaban said.

Members of ASI involved in the concert believe that the shortfall may have been the result of the concert being moved to a less favorable date in October.

According to the Student Leadership and Development website, the concert was originally set for Saturday, September 19th. However, due to schedule conflicts the concert had to be moved to a colder night in October that might have affected turnout.

Also, on the day of the concert, two other major events took place that might have affected turnout: Oktoberfest and the Central Valley Monster Truck Fall Nationals at the Stanislaus County fairgrounds.

Still, the hopes were for a larger turnout as Rumayor noted: "Didn't expect to sell out, but expected to do a lot better."

Students who might have requests for artists they would like to see at CSU Stan should go to the Warrior Activity Center located inside the University Student Union building or call their front desk at (209) 667-3833.
