Chi Delta Beta creates care packages

It is common knowledge that soldiers fighting overseas give up many of the comforts that they have been accustomed to all their lives. Apart from those relating to general technological comforts which many know of, there are also the smaller unknowns which we have come to take for granted. From simple candy bars, potato chips, jerky, quilted-toilet paper, and to the surprise of many - a fresh pair of socks. Yet the soldiers won't have to go without such items due to the ingenuity of the young men in Chi Delta Beta.
Over the past few weeks the fraternity has set up a number of green cardboard boxes in an attempt to collect items for care packages which they plan to send to the soldiers.
Ben Sierra, the president of the California State University, Stanislaus chapter of Chi Delta Beta, explained that the entire idea for gathering items came from their faculty advisor Mani Allegire, who is a member of the Blue Star Mothers of America Inc. The BSTMA is an organization of mothers that has dedicated itself to the support of the military members overseas.
In addition to setting up boxes around campus, the fraternity has also set up collection boxes outside of Wal-Mart in an attempt to get the community involved in supporting the men and women stationed in the war zones.
Sierra has also stated that on Wednesday, Chi Delta Beta shall show a film in the Carol Burke Student Lounge in addition to holding a raffle where one of the prizes is an iPod. For more information on what items are needed for the care packages for the soldiers you can check around campus for the signs propped up next to the collection bins.
Because after a hard days work, it'd be nice to know that those fighting can at least unwind snacking on a Snickers rather than standard M.R.E. rations.
