The Warrior Film Review watches two movies per week; one new DVD release and one classic movie. As a group, the movies are reviewed and rated on a scale of four possible stars. Tuesdays in the Carol Burke Student Lounge, a new release is reviewed and Saturdays, a classic is reviewed. Everyone is welcome. These reviews are meant to be by college students, for college students.

American Gangster: Academy Award winners Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe pair up and deliver an explosive on-screen performance in the telling of this legendary story. After Bumpy Johnson dies, a power void is left in the streets of Harlem, and his protégé, Frank Lucas (Washington), using ruthless tactics, steps up to take the reins. Lucas aims to be the most powerful crime boss in Harlem, and using his family and incredibly cunning tactics, he is successful, but makes many enemies in the process. Lucas manages to avoid any attention from the police, until a few mistakes attract the attention of an outcast cop (Crowe), who is heading a newly formed drug enforcement unit. The legendary confrontation ignites on-screen. This movie will surely be enjoyed by students and faculty of California State University, Stanislaus.

Rebel Without A Cause: A classic film starring the ever-legendary James Dean. Set in the 1950s, Dean portrays 16 year old Jim Stark, a teenager dealing with a set of frustrating issues which stemmed from a past altercation he had before his parents uprooted him from his previous town to a new location. During a small stint inside the local juvenile holding pin, he meets up with fellow other troubled teens, Judy, played by actress Natalie Wood, and Plato, portrayed by Sal Mineo. The point where all three meet is what sets up the foundation for the film. The movie provides good insight into the thoughts and motivations of teenagers who are feeling lonely and are angry at their parents. It is almost impossible not to share in the plights of the troubled teens as they encounter difficult situations and the law. While this movie may not make for a great social gathering of friends, it would most definitely provide an enjoyable hour and a half for any faculty or student of CSU Stanislaus. We give it four stars because of James Dean.
