Welcome Back Week sizzled up California State University, Stanislaus students with its theme "Hot Las Vegas Nights" from Sept 10 through Sept 14, sponsored by the Union Program Board.

The events kicked off on Monday with the Hard Rock Café from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. "The Hard Rock Café was about feeding the students," said Union Board Program coordinator Kiley Christopherson. "We were serving food such as onion rings, hot wings, and had a karaoke machine which I think drew in a lot of people."

Tuesday followed with "Dorm Stop", which featured an outdoor movie screening from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. "The 'Dorm Stop' was held outside in the dorms, in which we showed the movie 'Stomp the Yard'and held a raffle," said Christopherson. "It was open to all students, but the majority that attended was mainly dorm students."

"Circus, Circus" was the theme delivered on Wednesday with booths set up all along the quad from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. " 'Circus, Circus' was mainly info day from different departments of the school in which students could get information and get to know the departments, clubs, and other things available to them," said Christopherson. "We also had a strolling magician and a bungee trampoline."

Thursday theme was "Palms", which was a day completed with a Luau, hoola dancers, mocktails, which are virgin margaritas, and a dunk tank with people participating from the Union Program Board. "Our board of director chairman Sean Newland and two other members Yvonne Betancourt, Andrew Grayson, and Able Abrego participated in the tank," said Christopherson.

"Hot Las Vegas Nights" closed off on Friday with "The Nugget" Casino Night. UPB cooperated with Late Night Stanislaus to put on this event. Casino games were held inside the event center with activities such as a Black Jack Tournament, Texas Hold'em, Roulette, and other games. "There were some big prizes included such as a 26 inch LCD television, a Sony sound system, two iPod nanos, a mini fridge, and random gift cards from radio shack, best buy, etc.," said Christopherson. Students had plenty of time to arrive to the Casino Night as it was held from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m

Chi Delta Beta Fraternity members Fernando Torres and Carlos Gonzalez enjoyed Welcome Back Week and tried to participate as much as they could. "I try to participate as much as I can in between classes," said Gonzalez. "The Casino Night event sounded really cool and hey, it's a chance to gamble," replied Torres.

Freshmen Monica Plascencia and sophomore Martha Soria enjoyed "Circus, Circus" because of the information given out by the different departments in the school. "The Student Employment Services seemed really helpful because they could help me find a job," said Plascnecia.

Soria said, "It's good that they have different information because that is how I was informed about the sororities and clubs."

"Welcome Back Week is something that the Union Board does every year for the students, "says Christopherson. "It's different every year and I think this year has turned out to be successful!"
