California state parks closing

The hearts of nature lovers across California are breaking. According to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's 2008-09 budget proposal, up to 48 of California's state parks could be closing-that is nearly 20 percent. The Governor's motive behind the closures is to save the money it costs to keep these parks operating.
More CSU budget cuts to come

From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on March 19 in Room 130 of the Mary Stuart Rogers Educational Services Building there is a Budget Advocacy Summit meeting on how the state budget crisis will impact California State University, Stanislaus. The State Budget proposed by Governor Schwarzenegger in January, a 10 percent cut across the board, diminishes funding for the California State University system by $386 million for the 2008-09 budget for the 23 campus CSU system.
Budget cuts affecting public schools throughout the state

In terms of per-pupil spending, the state of California currently ranks 47th in the nation, spending about $2,000 a year or less on each student than the national average. Multiply those $2,000 by 6.3 million, which is the number of students currently enrolled in California's public schools, and it is seen that the state would have to spend over $12 billion more on education a year just to reach the national average.
New York Governor makes public apology

On July 29, 2007 New York Governor Eliot Spitzer stated this: "First, we're going to fight for what we believe in and second, we're going to maintain the highest ethical standards while doing it." Eliot Spitzer didn't fight for this cause. Spitzer resigned last Wednesday after getting caught in a prostitution scandal which shattered his career and his reputation.
High-def classrooms coming

High-definition is the newest technology craze to hit the market and California State University, Stanislaus is planning on checking it out. Classes in Merced, Sonora and Stockton watch live broadcast of their professors from Turlock on television on standard equipment in the CODEC classrooms.
Better software to help stay connected

California States University, Stanislaus has undergone changes in its administrative software. Nine years ago all 23 CSU campuses decided to make the switch to Peoplesoft. Because all the CSU campuses are converting to this software, they implemented it in two waves.
